"Please, drop me. What do I have to do? I'm tired of sucking corporate dick."

Amanda Palmer, how I love thee, let me count the ways.

When I listen to this song I imagine her sitting on a window ledge in New York with a towel around her head, strumming a guitar and staring dreamily into the night.

The background to this song: Amanda Palmer wants her record company to drop her because they don't understand her (or her fans). Anyway, it doesn't matter that they refuse to promote her solo album, because how did The Dresden Dolls gain their cult following? Through word of mouth on the internet. How have people found out about Who Killed Amanda Palmer, and how will they find out about it in the future? Through word of mouth on the internet. Pwnd, Roadrunner Records.

"This is your brain on death. Any questions?"

Why have I not watched MST3K before?

Also, this:

I mean, in the comic he's the Superman kind of ugly, but film Ozymandias is all ~*pretty in purple*~ and has a silly little fringe thingy. In the boys folder he goes!

Hrm

Watchmen was okay. As much as I looked forward to it, I never expected it to be the best thing ever (I expected it to be really good visually, which it was), because I don't think it's possible to adapt it to a film that even comes close to being as good as the comic. I did squee, silently, at the parts where the film was exactly like the comic, for example when The Comedian is thrown out of the window and when Rorschach jumps onto the The Comedian's balcony, and when they had lifted lines directly from the book. So yeah, I liked it visually and I liked that they had made a noticeable attempt to stay close to the source material. However, some things that were in the film could have been cut out of it and some things that weren't in the film could have been added too it. For example, it felt pointless to have Bubastis in the film. She's just this weird cat-like pet that you get to see for about three minutes without understanding what she means to Veidt and then he kills her. I didn't mind the squid-less ending. :p It made sense to have Dr Manhattan indirectly blow up all those cities instead of introducing ~*the terrible monster squid OUT OF SPACE (but not really)*~. I liked the monster squid in the comic because the comic is bizarrely funny in a way the film isn't. I mean, in the comic you get all these self-depricating (since it's very much a comic about comics), tongue-in-cheek things like Hollis talking about how ridiculous it is, really, to dress up in a costume to fight crime and Dollar Bill getting shot because his cape gets caught in a door. So the squid is like a joke. A serious joke. Like the comic - after all it's just a comic.

Things I missed:
  • Rorschach's sugar cubes!
  • The hovercrafts and Daniel's snow owl costume.
  • The magazine/newspaper vendor and the boy who reads The Black Freighter.
  • Loads of the symbols - they tried to fit a lot of them in, but it didn't quite work.
  • The politics. It was there, but not enough. I can see why, but still...

with scarves of red tied round their throats to keep their little heads from falling in the snow

AÖDSKFJÖDIFJÖAJÖJFDKFKM I love them.

Also, Fever Ray. And Welle:Erdball - nostalgia!

I don't really feel like going to a festival this summer, but I dunno... I might change my mind. If anyone else is up for going to Arvika, that is.

Here I am in my brother's flat. I've started to unpack my things and soon I will do my laundry. What an exciting day. Since I'm in Sweden now, I have to talk about the weather because that's what Swedes do. The weather is gloomy. The sky is a light shade of grey, it's drizzling, and the snow is melting, showing brown patches of ground. The leafless trees outside my window look solemn. I have a cold. I have cramps. I haven't had enough sleep so I find myself staring vacantly out the window because my brain isn't working.

So yeah, my first day here has been a bit of a bitch. Oh well. I'll feel better tomorrow (if I don't get a fever).

With love and squalor,
Ranulph C.

"Many scenes of Dr. Manhattan's computer generated penis swinging about"

I should be packing, but I just had to update, because this is the funniest review I have ever read. How did this woman get into her head that Watchmen is aimed at children? Is it because it's based on a comic? Is it because of the action figures? Seriously, if you think that all comics are for children you've been living under a rock for, I don't know, the past 20 years - probably more. And there are loads of adults who collect action figures because they grew up collecting them, just like there are many adults who collect My Little Ponies and Star Wars memorabilia. It's true that some parents are too stupid to bring their kids to a movie that is appropriate for them, but that doesn't mean that the movie has been marketed for children. I won't even go into how much she misses the point of Watchmen... I am laughing as I type.

I got my laptop back from PC World today! I have all my music and pictures and documents once more. My old settings are gone, but I'm sure I can get help with fixing that. Neeeeek-heeeeel...

I know, I finally update and it's, like, four sentences about my computer.
